About

I’m a woman, writer, feminist. I live in New York.

I write under the pseudonym, Kadia.

English is my second language (I apologize in advance for the inevitable grammatical errors).

I have been playing with the idea of writing a blog for a few years now. It began as half a joke between my girlfriends and I. At the time I was in the midst of a personal adventure and was sharing my experiences with my close friends, most of whom live elsewhere, via emails. They enjoyed my letters and thought that I should turn it into a blog. We had fun thinking of titles for that would-be blog. But time has passed, new adventures presented themselves and with them new ideas for a blog. I finally settled on the idea of Fenêtres – Windows – which gives me the freedom to write about anything that inspires me.

The name, Fenêtres, is not my original idea. It is based on a book by Jean-Bertrand Pontalis, a French writer, philosopher, and psychoanalyst who passed away on January 2013 (I bought this domain a month later, which felt meaningful to me). Pontalis explored the power of language to both reflect and conceal experience; to be a medium for self-awareness and for self-deception. His book, Fenêtres, constitutes a collection of short autobiographical essays that are reminiscent of the kind of conversations that take place in psychotherapy. One of my closest friends got me the book and I absolutely loved it. I found many of his musings and reflections to enrich and resonate with my own experience. I think this is part of what we are looking for in a blog.
